CALL FOR APPLICATIONS TO THE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN LEGAL PRACTICE (BAR COURSE) ACADEMIC YEAR 2027
The Law Council invites applications for the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice for the Academic Year 2027.
The Law Development Centre (LDC) shall have only one intake for the Bar Course in the Academic Year 2027, which will commence in January 2027 and end in December 2027.
ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY
To be eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practise at LDC, applicants should be:
- Holders of a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree awarded by a University in Uganda whose Bachelor of Law degree is accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in consultation with Law Council. The Accreditation should have been obtained by the awarding institution before your enrolment on the LLB programme;

Holders of a Bachelor of Law degree obtained from a University or Institution outside Uganda but operating the Common Law System. Applicants in this category MUST OBTAIN PRIOR WRITTEN CLEARANCE FROM THE LAW COUNCIL.
Applications received online with foreign qualification but without clearance from the Law Council shall not be considered. - In addition to the above requirements, all applicants MUST meet the minimum entry requirement for admission to a bachelor's degree as set out by the National Council for Higher Education Statutory Instrument No. 63 of 2007, i.e. 2 Principal Passes at A Level obtained at the same sitting or the equivalent and 5 passes at O Level obtained at the same sitting or the equivalent.
PRE-ENTRY EXAMINATION
All shortlisted applicants will sit a pre-entry examination and those who are successful will be issued admission letters.
The Pre-entry Examination for the Academic Year 2027 Bar Course admission under the Advocates (Professional Requirement for Admission to Post Graduate Bar Course) Notice, Legal Notice No. 17 of 2007, as amended by Legal Notice No. 12 of 2010, shall be conducted at the Law Development Centre, Kampala, on SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2026 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Candidates must be at the examination room by 7:30am.
The examination shall be closed-book.
It shall cover the core University law courses which are:
- Legal Methods
- Constitutional Law
- Law of Contract
- Criminal Law
- Law of Torts
- Law of Evidence
- Civil Procedure
- Criminal Procedure
The examination shall also test the candidate's aptitude and the values they attach to the legal profession.
APPLICATION FEES
All applicants are required to pay UGX 250,000/= (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Uganda Shillings) broken down as follows:
- Application processing fees of UGX 200,000/= (Uganda Shillings Two Hundred Thousand); and
- Pre-entry examination fees of UGX 50,000/= (Uganda Shillings Fifty Thousand), all payable to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) account.
HOW TO APPLY - STRICTLY ONLINE
To apply, please visit the online application portal at admissions.ldc.ac.ug
Fill the online application form, upload your academic documents and a nationally accepted valid identification (National ID, Passport, Driving License). Thereafter, click on the ‘pay for form’ tab to generate a Payment Reference Number (PRN). Follow the instructions on the PRN generated/printed to pay the application fees.
Only application forms with the requisite supporting documents submitted online and paid for shall be considered.
NB: Former LDC students who wish to repeat the Bar Course are also encouraged to apply and sit the pre-entry examinations.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
The application should be submitted not later than 18th September 2026.
Deans of law schools duly accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in consultation with Law Council should submit lists of their students who have qualified for the award of a Bachelor of Law but have not graduated. The list should be submitted to the office of the Director, LDC by 7th September 2026.
Applicants shortlisted to sit for the Pre-entry Examination shall receive an email from LDC Admissions office by 12th October 2026. The email shall state the date and time of examination and the allocated seat number. Applicants are therefore advised to ensure that they use active email addresses during online application.
